Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer
Annually, the Supreme Directorum designates one charity as the National Fraternity Charity of the Year to support. For this Fraternal year, Nicole has continued our commitment to the Lustgarten Foundation in honor of Dr. Jeffrey M. Levy, Donald Langan Sr., Dr. Albert J. Puccia, David Behme, and all of the fraternity's family and friends that have fought this disease. There are countless ways in which a chapter can help raise money for such a worthy cause including the many Pancreatic Cancer Research Walks that the Lustgarten Foundation sets up. The Philanthropy Committee for this year, Haley Guariello, assisted by Tan Carlin, look to help Fraters and chapters to set up events, exchange ideas with one another and track how much money is ultimately raised.
It is estimated that over 60,000 people will have been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer diagnosed in 2021. The median age for diagnosis is 70 years of age. Although pancreatic cancer represents approximately 3% of all cancer cases, it is the 3rd leading cause of cancer-related death.
The Lustgarten Foundation’s mission includes increasing the funding and support of research (100% of every donation received goes to pancreatic cancer research), facilitating and enhancing the dialogue among members of different medical and scientific communities to meet these needs, heightening public awareness of pancreatic cancer and supporting patients and their families and friends.
Lustgarten Foundation believes that it is no longer a matter of "if" we are going to conquer this disease, it is a matter of WHEN.
Some previous charities of the year include American Cancer Society, Ronald McDonald House, National Breast Cancer Foundation, The Association of Developmental Disabilities, and The March of Dimes.
